Abstract
In recent days, electromyography has been of great use in the diagnosis of the neuromuscular diseases not only for the diagnosis itself but for the selection of the. biopsy site.
The broader classification of myopathy encompasses muscular dystrophy, inflammatory, metabolic, toxic and endocrine myopathies, which can not be attributed of the central nervous system or a peripheral nerve dysfunction.
In electrodiagnosis, it is very rare¢¥ to contact with a case of inflammatory myopathy, although there has been many cases of pseudohypertrophic muscular dystrophy or myotonia.
Recently a case of dermatomyositis with polyneuropathy was diagnosed at this department and reported hereby with electromyography examination.
The EMG findings were as followings
1. Myopathic pattern, namely, short duration, low amplitude and polyphasic potentials were observed throughout.
2. Fibrillation potentials at rest were noted in proximal limb muscles.
3. Abnormal findings in nerve conduction study were observed with derceased velocity with
low amplitude in motor conduction study of-right tibial nerve.
In motor conduction study of right peroneal nerve, there noted low amplitude at proximal.
stimulation, and evoked action potentials at distal stimulation.
4. Decreased numbers of motor units were noted in both gastrocnemius.
